The Korean adaptation of Higashino Keigo's bestselling novel The Miracles of the Namiya General Store landed with one of the most loaded ensemble lineups Disney+ Korea has greenlit, anchored by Ryu Seung Ryong as the general store owner Go Min Joong.
The drama is filming now, with Disney+ targeting a 2027 release. Working title remains "The Miracles of the Namiya General Store."
What the source novel actually is
For readers who haven't followed Higashino's work outside the East Asian thriller circuit, Namiya General Store is the romantic-mystery outlier in his catalog. Per Disney+'s own framing, the premise centers on three petty thieves who hide out in the Namiya General Store — a place where past and present connect — and discover that letters slipped under the door pull them into advice exchanges with strangers from another time. The Korean version is being built as a serialized drama rather than a feature.
That's a meaningful structural choice. Episodic format gives the writers room to let each letter become its own arc — which is the storytelling rhythm Korean dramas already do well.
A cast list this dense usually means a tentpole budget
Look at who Disney+ booked for the lead chair: Ryu Seung Ryong, one of the most reliably bankable actors in Korean cinema, anchors the general store owner role. The supporting bench is the part that makes industry watchers pay attention.
Around him, the principal ensemble pulls in Kim Hye Yoon, Moon Sang Min, Lee Chae Min, and Yoon Kyung Ho. The three-thief crew that the novel centers on goes to Kang You Seok, Park Jung Woo, and Kim Seong Jeong. The additional roster — Go Ah Sung, Lee Soo Kyung, Kim Min Ha, Bae In Hyuk, Park Hee Soon, Oh Na Ra, Moon Woo Jin, and Park Se Wan — reads like a casting director worked through a wishlist without being told no.
And then come the special appearances: Yum Jung Ah, Yeom Hye Ran, Jung Chaeyeon, and Jang Dong Yoon. Veteran cameos at that level usually signal one of two things — either the production has the budget to pay scale-plus for a single-day shoot, or there's a producer relationship doing the favor. Either way, four names of that profile in cameos is unusual for a working-title announcement.
Why a 2027 release window matters
The 2027 target is a long lead time for a drama already in production. Two readings of that gap. One: heavy post-production, which would track if the time-travel-via-correspondence premise leans on VFX-heavy sequence work. Two: the release is being held for a specific seasonal launch — Disney+ has been increasingly deliberate about its Korean calendar slots.
Either reading suggests Disney+ wants this one positioned, not just shipped.

Higashino's novel works as a film because the letters-across-time conceit can compress into two hours; in episodic form, the writers will need to build standalone emotional payoffs each week without losing the throughline. That's a hard structure to land. Disney+ has already put that lever in one pair of hands: Park Young-ju, who directed the 2024 film Citizen of a Kind, is writing and directing. A film director carrying a novel into episodes is exactly the tension this format tests. If each letter lands as its own arc, this clears 8.0 on MyDramaList; if the episodes blur into one long film cut into pieces, it will fragment by episode three.
