Sophia’s Return to KATSEYE Confirmed for January 2027

Thirty-five days. That is the gap between the last scheduled night of THE WILDWORLD TOUR, in Mexico City on November 27, and the first day of January 2027. It is also the simplest way I know to explain why the latest KATSEYE update reads to me as relief and not another holding statement.

HYBE x Geffen has confirmed Sophia’s return to KATSEYE for the first week of January 2027. The same statement rules her out of the North American leg of the tour and every promotional activity left in 2026. After two months of open-ended waiting, EYEKONS finally have a date range they can write down, and I would much rather have a named week than another promise of news soon.

Sophia’s return to KATSEYE is set for the first week of January

The official Weverse notice is short and careful. HYBE x Geffen says Sophia has been prioritizing her health and well-being with the company’s support, and it thanks EYEKONS for standing by her and the group. Universal Music Japan published the announcement on October 9, original English text included. I appreciate what it leaves out: no diagnosis, no medical detail, nothing that is hers alone to share.

Sophia’s own words land harder. In an Instagram Story reproduced in The FADER’s October 8 coverage, she said she was sad to miss the rest of the tour and eager to perform with her members again: “I can't wait to share the stage with my sisters again and look out to all of you!” Sisters is the word I keep coming back to. That is someone writing about getting back to her group, not just about getting better.

In the message quoted by LOS40, she said she would use the remaining time to prepare and continue her recovery, and hoped to return happier, healthier, stronger and more grounded. I love that list. I also hope nobody turns it into a deadline she owes anyone.

The timing stings. Her hiatus began one week before the August 14 release of WILD, as dated in Apple Music’s catalogue, and the group’s release cycle has continued during her absence. If you track new music through our October comeback guide, file this news under who is on stage, not under what is coming out next.

August’s reassessment plan becomes a January window

The first notice gave fans far less to hold on to. In the initial announcement published by Universal Music Japan on August 8, HYBE x Geffen said Sophia would temporarily sit out upcoming promotional activities to prioritize her mental health and wellness. The company described consultations with medical professionals and planned to reassess her condition in September. A month for reassessment, no return date: that was the whole picture for weeks.

The Europe call came close to the wire. Soompi reported the August 30 local-time announcement that Sophia would miss the Europe and UK leg scheduled for September 1–17, two days before the scheduled opener at 3Arena in Dublin. It covered those dates and nothing beyond them, so North American ticket holders were left waiting on yet another notice.

This time the notice covers everything left in the year: the North American run and promotions through December. Counting from Universal Music Japan’s October 9 post, it arrived four days before Miami. Four days is not generous, but it beats two, and a fan holding a ticket for the Mexico City finale now knows exactly as much as someone at the Miami opener. That consistency is what I would give the company credit for.

The North American leg is the larger touring commitment

Miami comes first. Kaseya Center’s event listing confirms KATSEYE’s WILDWORLD TOUR stop on October 13. Sophia is out of the North American leg as a whole, so I would not hold out for a surprise appearance at a later city on this run.

I counted the dated rows in Live Nation’s original May itinerary: eight Europe and UK stops against 19 in North America. That is the poster as first published, so read my numbers as the original plan. Even so, the leg she is now sitting out was planned at more than twice the size of the one she already missed.

North America here means three countries. The itinerary takes in Montreal and Hamilton in Canada, Los Angeles on November 21 at Crypto.com Arena, and a November 27 finale at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. One participation notice covers every one of those nights.

Then come the 35 days. Even January 1, the earliest day of her return week, sits more than a month past Mexico City. Nobody is squeezing her into the last shows to make a moment of it.

January already includes a KATSEYE festival booking

Mumbai is already on the January calendar. KATSEYE’s official festival notice announced its participation in Lollapalooza India at Mahalaxmi Race Course. The organizer’s September 3 announcement lists the festival for January 23–24, 2027, with KATSEYE among its headliners, and describes it as the group’s first performance in India.

January 23 falls 16 days after January 7, the last day of that first week. The booking was public before the return update, and it belongs to the group: HYBE x Geffen has not put Sophia on the Mumbai stage by name, so I am not either. What I want next is a member-specific appearance update or an official performance announcement.

Nominations kept arriving in the meantime. Soompi’s September nominations report listed KATSEYE for Best Group and Best K-Pop at the 2026 VMAs, plus Song of the Summer for “Hootie Frutti.” Our VMAs coverage follows that wider awards conversation.

For EYEKONS, KATSEYE’s fan community, the January updates worth waiting for are the ones you can actually watch: a group clip, an appearance, a performance schedule. A date range is good news. Sophia back in a practice video would be better.

Mina’s Take

What I like most here is the distance. Fans get a stretch to leave alone (the rest of the tour) and a week to look forward to, with more than a month between them. That reads to me like a return planned around Sophia rather than around the setlist. My call: KATSEYE’s official YouTube or Instagram will post a new rehearsal or performance clip featuring Sophia between January 1 and 15, ahead of the Mumbai festival. A clip is the gentlest way to show a member back with her group, and it asks nothing of her before a festival crowd does. If January 15 passes without one, I got this wrong. And if HYBE x Geffen announces a dated appearance first, that is news worth its own headline.

What to watch next

  • A new official rehearsal or performance clip featuring Sophia on KATSEYE’s YouTube or Instagram between January 1 and 15.
  • A HYBE x Geffen appearance update or festival performance announcement clarifying Sophia’s participation in January’s public schedule.
