Korean age (세/살) is a traditional age-counting system where everyone starts at age 1 at birth (not 0) and gains a year on January 1st each year, not on their actual birthday. This means a Korean person can be up to 2 years older than their international age.
Subtract your birth year from the current year, then add 1. For example, if you were born in 1995 and the current year is 2025, your Korean age is 2025 − 1995 + 1 = 31.
만 나이 is the official legal age system in South Korea as of June 2023. It is equivalent to the international (Western) age — counting from birth with birthdays as the increment point. All official documents in Korea now use 만 나이.
