IVE 'Looks Can Kill': The Girl Hero Comeback, Date by Date

Three words and a date, projected across city high-rises: “IVE SPIN-OFF RELEASE 2026.10.19”. That was the first teaser for this comeback, and I like that it said “spin-off” out loud. It tells you how Starship Entertainment wants the era read.

The IVE Looks Can Kill rollout runs on two dates. The title track, “Looks Can Kill,” arrives on October 19 as a pre-release, and the mini-album of the same name follows on October 26. Both dates were announced on September 27. The EP has six songs, lyric credits for three members and Zara Larsson's name on one track. On the 19th, IVE also give the title track its first live performance, at a Spotify fan event in Seoul.

Girl Hero, after Cupid and Magical Girl

The concept is “Girl Hero,” a new alter ego after IVE's Cupid and Magical Girl personas. The teasers cast the members as superheroes in desert and snowy-mountain scenes. On October 6, IVE's official social channels posted a video titled “Post Credit Scene: Girl Hero,” and on October 11 a second one, “HERO TRAINING CENTER : HERO COMICS,” showed the six in hero training.

Look at the vocabulary. “Spin-off” on the teaser, “post-credit scene” on the video: two film terms, both for things that come after the main feature. The main feature here is REVIVE+, IVE's second full album, and I read the framing as Starship setting expectations on purpose: a side story on a six-track mini-album rather than the next chapter of the main plot. Spin-offs get room to be stranger, and whether “SNAKESKIN” or “Mirror Mirror” uses that room is what I most want to hear on the 26th.

IVE Looks Can Kill tracklist: six songs, three member writers

Starship posted the tracklist on its social channels on October 4. Writers have been reported for three of the six songs.

SongMember creditOther names credited
“Looks Can Kill” (title track)Rei (lyrics)Kiko, Seo Ji-eum, Lil Cherry (lyrics)
“Mirror Mirror”——
“SNAKESKIN”——
“CRUMBS”Gaeul, Liz (lyrics)Omega Sapiens (lyrics)
“Girls Girls Girls”——
“Glow Motion”—Zara Larsson, with Margo XS and Cecile Believe

A dash means no writer has been reported for that song. Rei co-wrote the title track's lyrics with Kiko, Seo Ji-eum and Lil Cherry; Gaeul and Liz co-wrote “CRUMBS” with Omega Sapiens. Half the group holds a lyric credit on a six-song EP, and Rei's is on the title track, the song most listeners will hear first.

Then “Glow Motion.” It credits Zara Larsson alongside Margo XS and Cecile Believe, who worked with her on “Midnight Sun.” Reports say Larsson joined forces with them and go no further. Nothing announced so far makes her a featured vocalist, so I'm treating “Glow Motion” as a song her team worked on until the EP is out on the 26th.

Spotify DIVE ACADEMY: the first live stage, October 17–19

The song's first stage belongs to Spotify. Spotify DIVE ACADEMY runs for three days at Ark Gangnam in Seoul, October 17 to 19. The 17th and 18th are immersive fan zones; on the 19th, release day for the title track, the venue turns into a one-night concert with the first live performance of “Looks Can Kill” and one more song from the EP ahead of its full release. On stage that night: An Yu-jin, Gaeul, Rei, Jang Won-young, Liz and Leeseo.

The event is named for the fans. DIVE is IVE's fandom name (it's in our K-pop fandom names list), and the group's statement in the announcement reads, “We can't wait for DIVE to experience Looks Can Kill with us.” For anyone not in Gangnam, videos of the performances come out afterwards exclusively on Spotify, along with a video podcast of the night's talk segment. No date has been given for either.

So Spotify has both the room and the footage for the era's first stage. For fans outside Korea, the first live look at “Looks Can Kill” will be a Spotify video. I think that's the sharpest decision in this rollout.

The bar REVIVE+ set

IVE's second full album, REVIVE+, ran on a double title. “BANG BANG” earned a perfect all-kill, the group's sixth, and eight music show wins; “BLACKHOLE” added one. By late September, IVE's career total stood at 83 music show trophies, nine of them from that one album. “Looks Can Kill” starts its own run a week ahead of its EP.

Mina's Take

I don't expect “Looks Can Kill” to beat “BANG BANG,” and I don't think it has to. The teaser said spin-off and the video said post-credit scene; that is a company pitching a side story, and side stories are judged on whether they make you want the next main installment. The part I'd underline is the order of events: the first live stage happens at a Spotify concert, the footage stays on Spotify, and the EP lands a week later. That splits the attention a single title push would get. My call, scorable: by November 30, “Looks Can Kill” has at least one music show win and fewer than the eight “BANG BANG” took. If it reaches eight, the spin-off outran the original, and I underrated it.
