Bang Si-hyuk recruited RM as an underground mixtape rapper and built a hip-hop self-mythology group at a no-name agency the majors had passed on. The concept tightened from a hardcore rap crew into a hybrid hip-hop boy group as trainees rotated in and out.

Debuted with 2 Cool 4 Skool as bulletproof boy scouts — angry, hip-hop-coded and dismissed by an industry that bet against small agencies. Bedroom-coded lyrics about school pressure and crushed dreams built the early ARMY core from the ground up.
